Groveland, FL – A two seater cesna style plane crashed in the wooded area of Groveland at about 840AM this morning (Friday). Residents of the Royal Highlands subdivision heard the plane motor sputter out and then crash.
Emergency crews from Lake County Fire Rescue, Lake County Fire Rescue Special Operations Squad, Groveland and Lake EMS responded to the area of the crash. Crews searched the wooded area of Indigo Road in Groveland for over an hour before being able to locate any signs of a crash and the pilot. “While our firefighters were searching the wooded area for the report of the downed plane for about an hour, the pilot actually ended up walking out to them” reports Lt. Brian Gamble, Vice President of the Professional Firefighters of Lake County. “It is amazing that he was able to walk away from the wreckage.” The pilot also dropped a PIN on his iPad before leaving crawling out of the crumpled plane. “This allowed our crews to be able to go exactly to the crash site.”
The pilot of the plane refused transport to the hospital and was the only occupant of the plane. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
