Lake County Fire Adds First Ever Rescue
Posted On: Dec 19, 2018
ASTOR, FL - Today is a historic day for Lake County Emergency Services. Lake County Fire has added their very first transport ambulance with firefighters crossed trained as paramedics/EMT's on it in service for 24 hour a day service at Station 10 in Astor. This ambulance will be known as a "rescue" in the near future.
This added unit is a cooperative effort between Lake County EMS and Lake County Fire Rescue, working together to make this happen.
An added benefit of this rescue in Astor, is that the crews will now be able to respond to fires with 4 firefighters, complying with a section of NFPA 1710. This allows crews once they arrive on scene, to make entry into a burning building with 2 firefighters while 2 firefighters remain outside as a backup safety crew, ready to go in at any minute. This manpower is crucial, especially in remote areas of Lake County.
Not only will the added manpower help at fires, it will also help mitigate vehicle accidents and serious medical calls more efficiently.
This additional ambulance improves service for all of Lake County residents by allowing Lake County EMS to relocate their existing ambulance crew to help with the ever increasing call load.
Firefighters have been training for months on transport units and this unit has been placed in service many weeks ahead of schedule to help with the "peak load" of calls during the winter months.
Lake County Firefighters already offer ALS (Advanced Life Support) with cross trained firefighters/medics at 20 stations across the county. This unit enhances the service being offered.
